The Street Animals of Taghazout

Why They Matter to Us

Among the sun-soaked streets, cliffside cafés, and surfboards of Taghazout, you’ll find another part of the village that holds a special place in our hearts: the street animals. The stray dogs and cats of Taghazout are more than just part of the backdrop—they are quiet companions to our days, keepers of the alleys, and gentle souls deserving of care.

Locally, we call them community dogs or beldi dogs—a name that reflects their place among us and the warmth they bring to our everyday lives.

Our Ongoing Commitment

At Rohi Threads, we try to do what we can—leaving out food and water, checking in on regular faces, offering comfort when we can. But we know it’s not enough. These animals need more than kindness—they need real care.

We are working towards:

  • Vaccinating as many street animals as possible to help control disease and keep them healthy
  • De Worming as many street animals as possible to help there health
  • Desexing (Spay & Neuter) to gently and humanely reduce the population and improve lives
  • Raising Awareness so more people notice, love, and help

We’ve already taken our first step by sterilising one of our favourite beldi girls, Layla—a calm and gentle soul who now lives a safer, healthier life thanks to this small act of care.

And we give worming treatments every 3 months to our regulars; Boof, Layla & Harry. All born in the same litter in our first month here.

Giving Back Through Our Work

To help fund this ongoing effort, $15 from every handcrafted Moroccan dog collar sold goes directly toward food, vet care, and sterilisation for the street animals of Taghazout. Every rug purchase helps us do more also.

As Rohi Threads grows, so will our impact. With each sale, we move closer to offering consistent, lasting support—more vaccinations, more sterilisation, and more animals like Layla getting the care they deserve. We will start working closer with local associations on the ground here already doing a great job.

Why It Matters

Street animals often go unseen or unheard. But they feel deeply. They deserve safety, warmth, and dignity. Every bowl of food or vet visit is a step toward a kinder world.

This is just the beginning.

For now, this page is a promise. We see them. We care. And we’re going to do more.
