Who Are the Berber Artisans?

The Berbers, also known as the Amazigh ("free people"), are the indigenous tribes of North Africa. With a rich cultural heritage, their traditions and beliefs are woven into the intricate patterns and symbols of each rug.

Each rug tells a story—its style, colors, and motifs vary based on the region, climate, and the weaver's personal experiences.

Boujaad

✨ Vibrant & Unique

Vibrantly rich and very unique, Boujaad rugs are a very popular choice in many homes. Weaved usually by women of the tribe, these rugs originate from high in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco, from the Boujad area. 

Boujaad rugs are highly durable and made to withstand daily use; they are unusual in design and often incorporate geometric symbols and more bold and colourful abstract motifs alongside a low to medium pile height. 

Zemmour

✨ Intricate & Durable

Handmade by Berber tribes from the Zemmour-Zaer area of Morocco. These wool rugs are extremely durable as the tribal weavers create very tight knots during the creation process. Pile heights usually range from a low to medium which makes them particularly versatile around the home.

Beni Mguild

✨ Bold & Expressive

Originating from a Middle Atlas Berber community - the Beni Mguild tribe. These rugs are bold and expressive and incorporate densely knotted wool making them structurally very strong. The pile can range from a low flat loop to a plush, soft and fluffy high pile. Perfect for warmth and softness underfoot

Beni Ouarain

✨ Minimal & Timeless

The Beni Ouarain tribe also hail from the Middle Atlas Mountains, but slightly more western in comparison to the Beni Mguild tribe. Beni Ouarain rugs are typically high pile, minimalistic in designs, and feature simple geometric on a cream base. Historically they were used for their warmth and even utilised as blankets and bedding.

Kilim

✨ Flatweave & Versatile

A Kilim rug is created using a different technique which results in flat weaves as opposed to the plush pile featured in our other rugs styles. Kilims are typically lighter and larger than other Moroccan rugs, and often they can be reversible as well! Kilims are versatile in that they can also be hung on a wall as a striking work of art
